In Year 1 we love to learn new things and this year is no different! We have so many exciting and engaging activities planned for the children to investigate and take on board during their time with us.
In Science, we will look in depth at what makes an animal an animal. We will investigate the bodies of different kinds of animals, inc. humans, to identify what put them in their category. We will also be experimenting with different materials to see which is best for keeping us dry. We aim to plant our own vegetables, care for them and harvest them, then using our crop to create meals or snacks for us to share and enjoy.
In Geography and History, we will be looking into what exactly these subjects are. What skills we will be developing during these sessions. We will be looking at the Globe, learning about the continents and the seas which make up our plant, completing research about hot countries and cold countries. In History we will be studying women who have made a huge impact on the world and our local area. How has our local area evolved? What has changed and what is still here after all these years.
In the wider curriculum, we will be experimenting with lots of different skills we can develop through “The Arts” using our continuous provision areas to practice our new skills allowing us to embed our new knowledge. We will learn all about computers and different programmes we can create documents on.

If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please contact Mrs Hart or Miss Blanco-Charters in the school office to arrange a meeting. Staff are available before and after school to discuss any issues or concerns.
