Homework and Home Learning

Each week homework is set on Monday and shoud be finished or handed in by the following Monday.

Homework will normally consist of:

Reading

  • Children should read AT LEAST 4 times during the week – even better to strive for 5, or read every single night.

Children are encouraged to write a comment in their Learning Logs to show their opinions on their reading, or to magpie good vocabulary and even to note down words that they didn’t understand so we can discuss them in class.

  • Reading Question.

Each week children are set a reading question.  This encourages them to think more deeply about their reading and they should write their response in their Learning Logs.

Children who have read at least 4 times during the week AND answered their reading question, will be awarded a reading certificate and have their photo posted on Class Dojo School Story.

Spellings

  • A list of between 10 and 20 words to learn. These will be tested on the Monday after the spellings have been given.

The words for our spelling tests are taken from the Year 5/6 Statutory word list and can be accessed by the button below.

Children who score full marks in their spelling test will be awarded green bubbles.

  • Every term we will return to the Year 5/6 Statutory Spelling list to check progress against all of these spellings so it is always worth returning to this list to check previous spelling test words as the weeks go by to try and improve progress.  By the end of Year 6, children should be able to spell around 85% of these words.
STATUTORY WORD LIST

Mathematics

  • Tables are tested 3x a week using Times Tables Rockstars.  The tables that we will be focusing on will be on the homework list each week.  The tests are split into multiplication, division and a mixture of the two.  Each test is out of 60 and will there is a time limit of 3 minutes for each test.  Once all 3 tests have been completed, scores will be added up and recorded in Learning Logs.

Children who score 180 will be awarded green bubbles.  If improvements are made in the scores, green bubbles are also awarded.

It is VITAL that you know your tables and the division facts that go alongside these up to 12 x 12.
