Welcome to Year 4
Miss A. Shaw
Miss A. Shaw
There are so many exciting learning opportunities for us this year in Year 4 and we know that the students will really enjoy the topics that we are going to study.
During English lessons, we will be writing in a variety of different genres and reading a varied range of texts. There are SO many wonderful books for us to read, listen to and study this year – some of which we will link to our writing, others that we will enjoy purely for pleasure during our daily story time!
During our History lessons, we will be delving into three different topics: the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings; Whitehaven’s mining history; and Ancient Egypt.
Our Science topics this year will encompass animals, habitats, states of matter (solids, liquids and gases), the human body, electricity and sound. While in Geography, we are going to learn about rivers, maps and the water cycle.
During ICT we will learn about animation, coding, spreadsheets, online safety and creating logos. Our Design and Technology lessons will also be great fun. Among other things, we’ve got slingshot cars and pavilions to design!
We will work in a variety of different mediums during Art lessons, including pencils, pastels, watercolour and recycled materials (for sculpture). We will also spend time analysing famous artists’ work.
During RE lessons, we will look at Christianity, in particular the New Testament and the scripture behind major Christian holidays (such as Christmas and Easter). We will also be contrasting our study of Christianity with the study of other religions, including Sikhism and Hinduism. We will also be asking why many major religions view life as a journey.
During French lessons, we will be learning to discuss appearances, the calendar, the weather, and food. We will also be learning some new French songs!
We will also have a music lesson every Wednesday and PE on Wednesdays and Fridays. It’s going to be a fantastic year!
