Spelling

As children move on from the Read, Write Inc. programme, spelling teaching is based on the CUSP resources from Years 2 – 6. Spelling lessons are taught discretely to practise these concepts at least twice a week with a further session integrated into writing lessons where children are able to apply what they have been learning discretely to their independent writing.

As well as learning in spelling sessions, children are also expected to complete some home learning based on the spelling patterns and rules they have been working on in class.

Our spelling programme ensures that children experience the National Curriculum statutory word lists which children should be able to spell by the end of the appropriate year group in order to meet the expected standard for writing.
